FAQs

Machzorim (Prayerbooks) and Tallitot (Prayer Shawls)
We are excited to use the Mishkan HaNefesh, a prayerbook for the Days of Awe. Temple members are highly encouraged to bring their own copy as there are only enough books to loan to guests. Mishkan HaNefesh is available for purchase online through CCAR Press & Amazon.com. If you choose to wear a tallit, please bring yours with you.

Dress:
This is a holy time. To maintain a spiritual atmosphere, please dress appropriately - no jeans, shorts, t-shirts, spaghetti straps, exposed midriffs, sneakers or flip-flops. It is traditional to wear white clothing (which represents purity) as well as non-leather shoes on both Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur day.

Reciprocal Tickets:
Temple Emanu-El congregants in good standing who plan to be out of town during the High Holy Days may secure a letter of reciprocity from the synagogue office. This letter will entitle you to attend services without charge, at any participating Reform congregation. Before the High Holy Days, check with the congregation you intend to visit. Please call our Temple Administrative staff at 408-292-0939 for further information and the appropriate forms.

Break the Fast:
Temple Emanu-El will be providing a Break the Fast meal following the Neilah service on Yom Kippur. Break the Fast is open to the community and is a wonderful way to end Yom Kippur as a spiritual family. There is no cost to attend, but your RSVP is requested so that we are able to provide enough food. There are sponsorship opportunities available and donations are welcome. Please notate the amount when signing up for tickets.

Sponsorship Levels (optional):

  • Platinum Sponsors $144
  • Gold Sponsors $72
