1913: Seeds of Conflict, is a groundbreaking film, originally aired on PBS, that explores the early days of Jewish-Palestinian relationships pre-World War One, when the territory was part of the Ottoman Empire. Award winning filmmaker, Ben Loeterman, discovered some contemporaneous film, which he incorporates in his documentary, showing Jewish settlers arriving, and settling in, what was then called Palestine (now Israel and the occupied territories.). If the more cordial relationships between Jews and Palestinians that were the norm during Ottoman rule were maintained, might things be different today? Or would world events, including the rise in nationalism, the decline of colonial empires, European pogroms, World War One and eventually, World War Two and the Holocaust, have made much of what we experience today inevitable.
