Many of us had ancestors who emigrated from Eastern Europe, settling in New York City or another Eastern city, during the wave of Jewish immigration from 1882 to 1920. Some of those ancestors might have lived in what is known as a tenement house. Please join our Temple Museum Group for a video tour of, and virtual discussion about, the Tenement Musesum in New York City.
We will watch a recorded tour of the museum that quite effectively takes us back to that earlier time, giving us a glimpse of a preserved tenement apartment. Doing so will give us an idea how some of that generation, in many cases our own ancestors, might have lived.
While in New York City, one of our group members very recently toured the museum, including a new building dedicated to the immigrant experience of many diverse ethnic groups who have come to America. She will share that experience with us. Also, some of the rest of us may have made an in-person visit sometime in the past and will be most welcome to speak to that experience.
This program, a ZIGZAG event, will be via Zoom.
