Shabbat In Nature at Long Ridge Open Space
Saturday, November 1, 2025 • 10 Cheshvan 5786
9:00 AM - 1:00 PMJoin Rabbi Magat and Docent Naturalists Nancy Weintraub and Sabra Abraham for a special Shabbat in Nature as we discuss Lech Lecha, a journey, and ponder the journey of our heritage as well as the journey of those that lived on these open spaces over the past thousands of years. You will learn about the natural and cultural history of Long Ridge Open Space as we hike along Peters Creek to the Jikoji pond and up to the ridge to take in the beautiful sweeping vistas from the Ridge Trail. We will have a brief ritual discussion and stop for a trailside snack at the Wallace Stegner bench. If weather permits expect to see spectacular views. Bring your own snack, comfortable hiking shoes, at least one liter of water per person and a snack. We will traverse a moderate 4.8 mile loop (for those wanting less of a hike, you can do an out and back at the Jikoji Pond after the first mile or so).
Peters Creek Roadside Parking (20 spaces): Located at Peters Creek trailhead on the west side of Skyline Boulevard, about 3.6 miles north of its intersection with Highway 9, and approximately 3.3 miles south of its intersection with Page Mill Road. If you are coming from the north on Skyline Blvd., the pullout is just past Portola Heights Road on the right. From the south, the pullout for the parking area is near the Palo Alto city limits sign on the right.
