Welcome to Israeli with Muki! Rabbi Magat and Israeli guide Muki Jankelowitz, will be exploring 3 different topics over a 3 week span. Each of the sessions is independent of the other ones. Please find the description and registration link below. These sessions will all be held on Zoom.

The dates of the sessions are January 14th, 21st, and 28th.

 

The origins of the modern Middle East - This session would look at the collapse of the Ottoman Turkish Empire and the emergence of the States (and non-State actors) that have shaped the region since World War One.

Zionism - Why is there a Jewish State in the Middle East? How did the Zionist movement emerge and what are the claims of the Jewish people.

The War that began on Simchat Torah - This session would look at the parties to the war, Hamas, Hezbollah, The Yemini Hutis, Iran and how the war has developed. The session above looks at how the war has impacted Israel and Israelis on a more personal and day to day level. This session will look at the different fronts and focus more on strategic questions.

About Muki: A licensed Israel tour guide, Muki Jankelowitz, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. After making Aliyah in 1987, he lived on Kibbutz Tuval and served as a combat medic in the IDF. Muki holds a BA in sociology and history from Wits University in Johannesburg, an honors degree in Biblical Archaeology from the University of South Africa, and received his master’s degree in Jewish Studies (Midrash and Aggadah) from the Shechter Institutes in Jerusalem. Today, Muki works as a freelance guide and educator. He has worked with youth and student programs, Birthright, various synagogues, AIPAC and a wide range of Jewish organizations and JCC’s. In addition to guiding Muki lectures and acts as a scholar in residence and since Covid has added zoom teaching to his repertoire. Muki currently resides in Modi’in with his wife, Mandy, and sons, Shaked and Niv.
