10:00 AM - 12:00 PMExperiencing America in a Political Year
Hour One:
Our speaker in the first hour will be Julie Garrett who each Presidential Election year, beginning in 2008, has traveled across America to get a true feel of what Americans, whether on the red side of the political divide, or the blue side of the divide, are thinking. Julie records many of the interviews she conducts. This year she was on the road for three weeks, only recently returning. She will share with us what she learned and how this year is different than previous years. As part of her presentation, Julie will show us some of the interviews she did.
Hour Two:
As important as the national election is, equally important are the races for many local offices, and the candidates we must choose among. In our second hour, we will hear from two candidates for the West Valley-Mission College Board of Trustees, running for the first time for political office. Both are retired faculty members, Rebecca Wong from West Valley College and Diane Lamkin from Mission College.
In addition to talking about their experiences as first-time candidates, they will also discuss some of the most important issues and challenges facing both the education system, California Community Colleges and today's students.
