Rabbi Joseph and Rosalie Gitin Religious School

Jewish Studies

Children can gain their necessary foundation for living as Jews by studying at Temple Emanu-El's Rabbi Joseph and Rosalie Gitin Religious School. Here, we follow the high-quality curriculum guidelines established by the Union for Reform Judaism. Classroom topics include holidays, customs, history, ethics, values, prayer, Hebrew, current events and Israel. A music program integrates the joy of Jewish song into all of our classrooms. Our art program enriches the religious school curriculum by providing opportunities for students to learn about Jewish art through creative projects.

For age-appropriate learning, the religious school is divided among the following groups:

Hebrew School

At Hebrew School, children learn to read and write Hebrew with an emphasis on "t'fillot" (prayers). This gives them the knowledge to participate fully in Shabbat services, holidays, and Jewish life anywhere in the world.

Each Hebrew School grade level leads a Family Service during the year. Upon completion of four to five years of Hebrew School, graduates lead a Friday night and Saturday morning service in celebration of their Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Additional Information

Adult Education

Adults learn about Jewish history, religion, culture, relationship building and personal growth in small group sessions through Adult Education. Workshops are scheduled to fit conveniently into our congregants busy schedules. Temple Emanu-El's Rabbi, visiting scholars, other professionals and volunteers from the community lead these groups.

Youth Group

Field trips, parties, community service, Jewish identity and fun comes from joining Temple Emanu-El's youth groups. Under the guidance of adult advisors, teens make friends while gaining leadership skills. This prepares them for college and life.

We offer one group for junior high school students and another for high school students. Teens participate in age-appropriate activities. Our youth groups are affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth.
