Jewish Studies

Children gain their necessary foundation for living as Jews by studying at Temple Emanu-El's Rabbi Joseph and Rosalie Gitin Religious School housed in the state-of-the-art Levin Learning Center. We follow the high-quality curriculum guidelines established by the Union for Reform Judaism. Classroom topics include holidays, customs, history, ethics, values, prayer, Hebrew, current events and Israel. A music program integrates the joy of Jewish song into all of our classrooms. Our art program enriches the religious school curriculum by providing opportunities for students to learn about Jewish art through creative projects.

For age-appropriate learning, the religious school is divided among the following groups:

Hebrew School

At Hebrew School, children learn to read and write Hebrew with an emphasis on "t'fillot" (prayers). This gives them the knowledge to participate fully in Shabbat services, holidays, and Jewish life anywhere in the world.  Hebrew studies is a four year program.

Each Hebrew School grade level leads a Family Service during the year and a Saturday morning service. Classes meet on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings, and are in addition to, and separate from the Jewish Studies curriculum.
