WELCOME TO TEMPLE EMANU-EL

Over 140 years of tradition, warmth and caring distinguish Emanu-El, where our founders made history by establishing Santa Clara Valley's first Jewish congregation in 1861. Today, we are more than 500 families strong and are proud to be one of the oldest Reform congregations on the west coast, as well as the largest Reform congregation from San Jose to Los Angeles.

At Temple Emanu-El, we honor the progressive ideals of the Reform movement as we strive to make the Jewish heritage relevant to our lives in the 21st Century. While we are a Synagogue honoring more than 5,700 years of history and tradition, we are also the Temple with the binary address - 1010 University Avenue - reflecting the unique nature of Silicon Valley and our place within it.

MEETING TODAY'S NEEDS

Temple Emanu-El offers a balance between Judaism's rich traditions and modern-day realities - our synagogue provides a solid foundation for members' spiritual, intellectual, and social needs. As a congregation we adhere to the principles of egalitarian mainstream Reform Judaism as warmth of song, prayer, sermons, learning, social events and community service add meaning to our lives. Recognizing Jewish education as a top priority for preparing and grounding our children in the hyper-competitive world of the Valley, we offer classes with personalized attention from preschool through the 12th grade. We also have Clergy available for all life cycle events as well as one-on-one counseling.

ALL JEWS & THEIR PARTNERS ARE WELCOME

Temple Emanu-El's members include individuals, couples and families from all walks of Jewish life. Some Jews come from more traditional backgrounds - others are interfaith couples, individuals searching for answers, or those rediscovering their religion. We embrace diversity and those who choose to make our Synagogue a part of their lives will find themselves welcomed by their fellow congregants - a second family to grow with and learn from.

EXPERIENCE OUR TEMPLE - VIRTUALLY AND IN-PERSON

We invite you to connect with your Jewish roots by visiting us at Temple Emanu-El. You can easily - and best - experience the spirit of our community by attending Friday night Shabbat services, or perhaps visiting our new preschool. However, we recognize that not everyone will have the opportunity to do this at first, while others may feel more comfortable once they get to know our community. So in keeping with the Silicon Valley spirit, we have made our website an online showcase of the Temple's facility, staff and congregants. The links below will enable you to get a taste of what Temple Emanu-El is like - but nothing can replace being with us in person!

As such, please feel free to contact me at rabbimagat@templesanjose.org or the facility staff at admin@templesanjose.org to arrange a meeting and best evaluate how our temple can satisfy your needs.

Thank you again for visiting us - you should also be sure to see the community portion of our website, where a schedule of daily events and services may be found. Once you have joined our congregation, a wide range of other options may also be accessed there, including a discussion board, online chat and more! We look forward to hearing from you and hope to welcome you as a member of our extended family.

L'shalom

Rabbi Dana Magat
